As a study participant, what will I be asked to do?
The Consumer Opinion Center conducts consumer research of tobacco-related products. As a study participant, your role will be to assist in research by performing various tasks and answer a series of questions related to the product being tested.
How do I qualify to participate?
You must be between the ages of 21 and 65 to participate in a study, and depending on the study criteria, a tobacco consumer or e-vapor consumer. You also will be asked a series of medical and health-related questions to determine if you qualify for our studies. What information do I need to provide?
In addition to answering some basic demographic and tobacco use questions, you will be asked to provide your social security number. This will enable us to send you a 1099 tax form for your income reporting purposes. Please note that we respect the privacy of our study participants; all of the personal information collected is treated in the most highly confidential manner and is not made available to anyone outside those conducting research for the Consumer Opinion Center.
How long do the studies last?
The Consumer Opinion Center conducts several different types of research, all with varying timeframes that range from one day to on-going basis. As a study participant, your time commitment will depend on what study you participate. View our available studies.
Can I choose my own schedule?
The Consumer Opinion Center provides a variety of appointment times to accommodate study participants. Once registered for a study, you will be able to choose the time that works best for you.
What if I can’t make my appointment?
If you are unable to keep your appointment to take part in a study, we ask that you call one of our representatives at 1-800-9267-COC (1-800-926-7262) as early as possible, as we will need to find someone to replace you. In order for us to successfully conduct our research, and to be fair to our study participants, we ask that you let us know if you are unable to participate.
How will I get paid for my participation?
The compensation you will receive as a study participant will depend on the general requirements of the study. Upon completion of the study, your stipend check will be mailed to your home address. If you change your address, please be sure to update your records with us immediately to ensure that your check is not delayed. If the check is sent to an incorrect address, it will be reissued after 10 business days. Can I participate in more than one study at a time?
Study participants cannot volunteer for more than one study at a time. However, the Consumer Opinion Center conducts studies and evaluation sessions continuously, and study participants are encouraged to check with us to find out about more opportunities once they have completed a study. Where are the studies held?
All studies and evaluation sessions are held at the COC facility located at 9750 W. Broad Street, Glen Allen, VA 23060. See Contact Us page.
How will the information I provide be used?
The Consumer Opinion Center values its study participants and the information and feedback they provide. While participating on a study, the information you provide will be used in the improvement of current products and the development of new products.
